As last official trip of my vacation in August 2016 in Gran Canaria, I visited the beautiful town (if not the country) of Artenara.
Artenara is the highest village in Gran Canaria.
Located at 1270 meters, with its 1300 (approx) inhabitants, Artenara is one of the most picturesque villages on the island of Gran Canaria.
How to get to Artenara
Artenara reach by bus / guagua from Playa de Ingles is a bit 'uncomfortable because you have to first get to Las Palmas (bus 30), then you have to go up to Teror (bus 216) and from there take the 220 bus to Artenara.
Unfortunately times are what they are, and starting before 9 you get to Artenara not before noon, then having to start at 16 and go around again in reverse.
In short, it is out all day for a visit of less than four hours, but definitely worth it.
The peculiarity of Artenara is that it is built using very caves / caverns / cuevas.
The Santuario de la Cuevita for example, is a small church built inside a cave.
Then there are several homes built somewhere between the cave and the traditional Canarian house, and also the Ethnographic Museum Casa Cuevas (to offer input), is built inside a cave.
In the village there is also the cute Iglesia de San Matias, and if you want you can even eat in a restaurant in a cave ... a fantastic experience that I recommend you try at least once.
Artenara then many sights. Just climbing a moment to admire the fantastic views.
From Artenara fact, you can see the Roque Nublo as well as the volcano Teide on Tenerife.
Here is a list of videos that I made to Artenara and around (by bus):

Unfortunately the weather for Artenara flew and I could not turn that much, but I still could see that from Artenara were leaving a lot of paths to do healthy hiking in nature, that being to the north of the island, is more green and less arid south from where I came from me :)
Artenara is therefore an almost must-see if you happen to Gran Canaria, I strongly recommend it.
I leave you with the inevitable photo album.
