Trekking Gran Canaria (Canaries)

Tags

Tired of the usual days at sea and to visit the city during my holiday in Gran Canaria, the other day I decided to try my hand in a healthy and wholesome day of trekking.

Trekking Gran Canaria

The idea came to me looking out the window of my hotel, from the eighth floor.
I see the mountains, just outside the city, not too high and not too far away, and say to myself ... why not?

So, after I prepared psychologically and after making large supply of water and food, the next morning I went to try my hand in a day of hiking in Gran Canaria.

From Playa del Ingles I arrived on foot to the nearby San Fernando, and I found them a little inviting (not to mention smelly) underpass with which to overcome the highway that separated me from the mountains.

And 'so it began my climb to the mountains of Gran Canaria, with a not too steep, short climb up a hill.
Overcoming an arid terrain, I always penetrated more towards the center of the island (although they were still relatively south: p).

The peculiarity of the territory of Gran Canaria, especially the south, is dryness. With a landscape of cactus and succulents, but also of Canyon and the steep ravines, here called Barranco (said in the singular).

During my career I have also seen many caves, mostly uninhabited.
Of the few caves occupied that I found on my way though, I did not have the courage to get too :)

Grotte abitate

I followed the first leg from above the road, crossing only a first gully whose name is unknown (it could be the bull gully or ravine butter, who knows), and then continue always from above and so can always admire most beautiful panoramas.

The initial idea was to get to Arteara and then from there take the bus. I believed I could do it, but following the navigator (which indicated to me only the path to the main road) is popped on top of a mountain, and from there it was impossible to get out in time to catch the last bus (cursed on Sunday hours!).
So, I had to go home on foot, making the inverse way, but by varying a bit ', passing directly into a gully.
I had never done it!
Roads zigzag long, full of stones and various obstacles, and in some very risky points!

Strada ripida

Eventually, with great effort, I managed to get back to the starting point, and to return to healthy hotel and save before dark :)
I basically walked all day, I left at 9 am and arrived at 9pm ... a massacre!

Below a little 'video of my trekking in Gran Canaria.

This day of hiking was exhausting and I do not know if I would do it (maybe would study better before the path and I would not go so blindly as I did this time), but it was also a truly unique experience.
I rode really striking roads, completely alone in the middle of nature ... although sometimes I had a little 'fear.

In a full day of travel I have not met any living being (if we exclude the inhabitants of the caves at the beginning of the lap), plus, when it started to rain, I also repaired in a cave.

If it was not a day of adventure this ... :)
