Puerto de la Nieves and Agaete (Canaries)

Tags

Continued my tour of Gran Canaria, this time it's up to the towns of Puerto de la Nieves and Agaete.
Starting from the south, the tour to do to get to these northern towns, if you want to move from the western side, is very long and exhausting, but definitely worth it.

Puerto de la Nieves

The first leg of my trip was Puerto de la Nieves, a nice town very typical Canaria sea.

How to get to Puerto de la Nieves
To get to Puerto de la Nieves from Playa de Ingles by bus, if you want to move from the west, you have to get up to Puerto de Mogan, then go to Aldea de San Nicolas (read my post about it for more details) and from there then you take the bus (guagua) number 101, which in an hour brings you to your destination.
The road is full of twists and turns, but the view is spectacular, and alone is worth the trip.

Once in Puerto de la Nieves you can immediately visit the coastal area with the promenade and stony beach, and close to them you can admire what remains (after the hurricane of 2005) of the Dedo de Dios (God's Finger) .
Beautiful also the final part of the pier where the locals (and not) plunges happily into the clear ocean waters.

In Puerto de la Nieves if you wish, you can eat in one of the many seafood restaurants, cheap and quality.
Being a windy area, Puerto de la Nieves lends itself to water sports like kite surfing and windsurfing.

Agaete

From Puerto de la Nieves, with a short walk, you can reach the picturesque town of Agaete, a bit 'too steep for my taste, but definitely impressive.

Agaete

Agaete you can visit the center and the typical church called Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion, more if desired, you can also visit a museum and botanical gardens (which I have not visited for lack of time).

Then climbing the steep streets, you can reach an interesting viewpoint:

From Agaete I then I took the bus 103, which in an hour or so brought me to Las Palmas, and from there, with the usual guagua number 30, I returned to the base.
Surely I would have taken less doing the rounds from the east, but I also wanted to try that route, however, was very nice and scenic.

Agaete and Puerto de la Nieves I liked them as citizens, a bit 'windy but quite fascinating.
