Tenerife (Canary Islands)

Tags

My first holiday destination of the Canary Islands is Tenerife.
With its 2034.38 km ² and a population of about 900,000 inhabitants, Tenerife is the largest island of the Canaries and the most populated of the whole Spain.

The Canaries are islands of Spain with special status where the tax is only 7% and where gasoline and other consumer goods are cheaper than in the rest of Europe.

But apart from the economic reasons that push many pensioners trasfersi the Canaries, or young entrepreneurs to start their own company there, the Canaries are known mostly for their climate.
In fact, if you search on google "climate most beautiful in the world" you will notice that Gran Canaria is the second-largest player ... but Tenerife is not far behind in terms of climate!
In fact, Tenerife is called the island of eternal spring, as the average temperatures range from a minimum of 18 degrees in the cooler months to a maximum of 24 degrees in the hottest months.
Then of course there may be exceptions, but even when the temperature rises, the breezy climate and the near absence of the island humidity makes the heat quite bearable.

Climate and temperature separately ... what else can help make Tenerife and the Canaries in general very top holiday destinations in Europe? ... Exact, its beautiful beaches!

Tenerife is not only sea and beaches, it is also beautiful cities, quaint villages, mountain hiking, themed playgrounds and much more.
Three of the Canary Islands is perhaps the one that offers greater variability, as both climate as flora and fauna.

We also want to put that in Tenerife's Teide? Which at 3,718 meters it is the highest peak in Spain and the third largest volcano in the world (which fortunately has erupted the last time more than 100 years ago).
To be virtually in Africa, it is strange to see such a high mountain.

But how is it that the Canaries are in Africa but belong to Spain and we speak mostly Spanish?
Simple, many years ago, in 1400 or so, the Spanish conquerors have exterminated the leggitimi owners of the islands, the population of the Guanches, and have taken possession.
Tourism is obviously arrived much later.

Going back to my trip to Tenerife. In addition to visiting several more or less famous beaches, I also did some DIY trip by taking public transportation, which are very convenient and reliable.

An interesting tour I did was to the village of Masca, one of the most characteristic of the island:

A Masca though I made the diminished not do the walk leading up to the sea (well three hours cmq ...) so I lost some of the charm of the place.

I, however, later remade by making a trip to Barranco del Infierno, an interesting overview of the walk which.

Another interesting tour is the one made in Los Gigantes, a town named for the presence of towering rock walls about 800 meters to go to the sea.
Admirable from the black volcanic sand beach or a short boat trip.

Basic I was in Costa Adeje, which seemed a good compromise as it is a well served tourist area but still the quietest of the nearby Las Americas and Los Cristianos.

Taking the bus (which is called in the Canaries guagua) I also visited the capital of Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

City definitely worth considering for those who intend to move to Tenerife in search of work, even if they are very difficilotto find it ... almost like in Italy.

Of course I am visiting Santa Cruz I could not take the bus and in ten minutes to get to one of the most famous beaches, Playa de Las Teresitas.

You should know that Tenerife and Gran Canaria (see my post on Gran Canaria) are in constant competition, they are rivals and almost hostile and often mimic each other.
For example, they tend to do often comparisons to figure out which of the two capitals is more beautiful, if Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Las Palmas has on its side the beach, maybe less beautiful (but always beautiful in my opinion) than that of Santa Cruz but positioned directly in the city center and easily accessible on foot.
On the other hand the beauty of the Santa Cruz beach is artificial, as its sand was taken directly from the Sahara desert.

But I must say that the Canary I imagined cheaper since there is the VAT at 7%.
At least in the more touristy areas are a bit 'and the prices are very similar to those of Italy.
Moreover, the difficulty in finding a job and employee base salary, make it harder than expected to move to live there.
If you are an investor and you want to open a business, it is certainly more feasible than in Italy, but you have to properly evaluate many factors, as the already saturated market and only innovative ideas emerge among the thousands of Italian restaurants.
The situation is different if you are retired.
Retirees in fact have a cheaper pension if they transfer their retirement them, worrying then after just enjoy the sun and warm temperatures all year round.
Among other things it will save a lot on heating, since the Canaries do not need!

Apart from the photos, I also made several videos, but due to a problem of my camera came almost all the length of 5/2 max.
Taken individually I am not so much, but in a playlist have their reasons:

If I wanted to find fault of Tenerife, at least in the south, it is the slope.
If I who am young was uncomfortable and tiring going to the beach despite its proximity, let alone those who are elderly.
But there is to say that I saw that turned a lot of electric vehicles, also used by young people lazy :)
Then if we want to find one fault, in Tenerife, at least in the south, there are a bit 'too much Italian and this is a bit' losing the charm of being in a foreign country as each 2x3 feel Italian speaking: p
And finally, there is also another difettino that I was forgetting to mention, this mostly south of Tenerife: the cockroaches!
Yes, there are a bit 'too much for people used to live in the Italian city ... but the thing is quite acceptable, in my opinion.

Overall, however, Tenerife I loved and my only rimpiato was that of not being able to visit (for lack of time), the Teide volcano, but who knows, maybe one day I will refer.
